Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx Design

If you look at the Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx design and look, you’ll see that those two RC cars are completely different. The X-Maxx is a monster truck while the Sledge is a Truggy.

The X-Maxx is distinguished by its high and wide platform and is the biggest Traxxas RC car in the Traxxas fleet.

On the other hand, the Sledge is wide but not that big like the X-Maxx. We can say that the Sledge is a smaller version of the XRT!

Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx Body

As mentioned earlier, the Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx are two completely different RC cars in terms of design.

Traxxas Sledge has a Truggy body that is so wide and low. It is more aerodynamics friendly than the X-Maxx.

These are not the only Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx differences though!

Traxxas Sledge comes with body skids on the roof for protection, unlike the X-Maxx.

In addition to that, the Traxxas Sledge comes with a big spoiler in the rear that adds more downforce when going at high speed.

The Body Colors

Regarding the colors, both RC cars come in different colors.

The Traxxas X-Maxx is offered in 5 colors which are: Solar Flare, RNR, Orange X, Red, and Green.

Traxxas Sledge comes in 4 colors which are: Orange, Red, Green, and Blue.

Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx Chassis

As you saw, the bodies of the Traxxas Sledge and X-Maxx are different. What about the chassis?

Well, at first look, you will see these two chassis are too different than each other. First of all, you will notice how the X-Maxx chassis is higher with high ground clearance.

On the other hand, the Sledge is on the opposite side. This RC car comes with a low ground clearance chassis.

Other than that, they both have wide platforms. However, this width looks ode efficient on the Sledge since its low chassis is more convenient to avoid being flipped out.

Also, the X-Maxx is offered with a big bumper while the Sledge doesn’t have any.

The Front of the Chassis

Now, let’s look into more details.

The first thing you’ll notice is the fact that these two TC cars are both wide, this is thanks to the suspension they have.

But, the surprising thing is the fact that they don’t have the same suspension. Traxxas X-Maxx has been updated lately to have the Maxx suspension which is so wide.

The Traxxas Sledge doesn’t have this type of suspension though!

Also, they both have Aluminum shocks, but, there is a difference between the two!

Traxxas X-Maxx has the GTX shocks which are the same as the XRT’s shocks.

For the Sledge, the shocks are GT-Maxx shocks.

This doesn’t mean that one is better than the other, they’re both super powerful and can handle a lot of pressure!

The shock towers on those two RC cars are also so different. The X-Maxx shock tower looks more advanced in its design well as in performance since it is included with the chassis to increase the handling.

On the other hand, the Sledge comes with the traditional design that most Traxxas RC cars have.

The Middle

The Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx middle of the chassis doesn’t have any similarities!

On the X-Maxx, the internal electrical parts are all gathered in the middle and surrounded by two battery holders that can handle 4s Lipo batteries.

On the other hand, the electrical components are installed on one side while the battery holder is on the other side. In the middle, there is a passing Aluminum T-bar from the front shock tower to the rear one.

Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx Rear Chassis

For the rear, both RC cars are different as well!

The Traxxas X-Maxx comes with a wheelie bar which is something you don’t find in a lot of Traxxas RC cars today, usually, you have to buy one separately.

On the other side, the Traxxas Sledge doesn’t come with a wheelie bar, however, it comes with a big spoiler that increases its performance as well as its look.

Since these two RC cars are so different in shape and size, their wheels will be different as well.

Traxxas Sledge is offered with the Huge 6.7” Sledgehammer all-terrain tires and Tough 3.8” black wheels.

Traxxas X-Maxx is offered also with all-terrain tires made for 8s RC cars.

Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx Performance

As you saw in this review, the Traxxas Sledge and X-Maxx are different in most aspects.

But, for the performance, they look a bit similar.

Traxxas Sledge comes with a Velineon^® 2000kV Brushless Motor, a fully waterproof metal gear servo, a VXL-6s Waterproof Electronic Speed Control that supports 6s batteries, and two battery holders. It can reach up to 60+mphwhich is super fast.

What about the X-Maxx? It is offered with a Velineon 1200XL Brushless motor a VXL-8s speed controller, as well as two 4s Lipo batteries. With these combined, the X-Maxx can reach up to 50+mph.

So, as you see, the Sledge is faster than the X-Maxx. What about handling?

Traxxas Sledge VS X-Maxx Handling

Well, Traxxas X-Max has been called the king of Traxxas RC cars not only for the big size but also for the imaginable ability of handling and pressure it can withstand.

This RC car is really hard to break even with the stock version.

On the other hand, Traxxas Sledge comes with so many powerful parts and its handling is pretty strong too. But, in comparison to the X-Maxx, there is no way it can beat it!

Traxxas Sledge and X-Maxx come with the same transmitter and receiver and with almost the same features.

Both RC cars are offered with the TQi^™ 2.4GHz High Output Radio System (transmitter) and a 5-channel micro receiver.

Also, both Rc cars have the TSM feature which is the Traxxas Stability Management that helps maintain the same direction by turning the wheels automatically.

You can also install the Traxxas app to see more details about your RC car after connecting it to the Traxxas Device that you can buy aftermarket.

This app will show you so many things about your RC car like the RPM, top speed, the temperature of the motor as well as other settings.

Still, there is a feature that Traxxas Sledge doesn’t support. It’s the Self-Righting system.

This system is a time saver since it allows your RC car to flip back in case of a flip over. This will save you a lot of fo time going all the way to where your RC car has flipped over and flipped it back yourself.

For the Sledge, this feature might not be available, however, this RC car doesn’t need it that much since it is so low and wide that it’s hard to flip it over.
