Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx Design

The Body

Since the X-Maxx is so popular, I assume everybody knows that this RC car is the biggest and widest Traxxas RC car. It has its own platform and components.

On the other hand, if you’re familiar with Traxxas RC cars, you’ll notice that Traxxas UDR looks almost like the Slash. But the UDR is bigger and stronger of course.

From a design perspective, I see that the design of the X-Maxx looks sexier than the design of the UDR. However, that depends on what each person prefers.

There are some people that love Rally looking car like the UDR, and there are other that love the monster-ish looking vehicles.

Also, when it comes to details, Traxxas UDR has a lot of cool details that you may enjoy seeing.

And the great thing is, some of them are real, and you can use them! (If you’d like to see more weird features on the Traxxas UDR, check our detailed review about it from here)

For example, the two wheels at the rear end of the UDR give it a great look as an off-roading vehicle. They’re not fake by the way. You can use them as a backup!

There are also some other details like the fire distinguishers and the real high-voltage headlights that come with the stock vehicle.

The Chassis

Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx. Which One Is The Best For You?

The chassis of these two RC cars differ completely, especially for the Traxxas UDR. The UDR is different not only than the X-Maxx but, on the whole, Traxxas RC cars.

The first thing you see when you remove the body of the Traxxas UDR is a big cage to give internal support to the body. And to give maximum protection to the internal parts!

This thing isn’t available in the Traxxas X-Maxx! However, the height and the strong body of that X-Monster keeps it in no need for that.

Besides, the structure of the components of the UDR is also different! Contrary to regular RC cars, the engine is installed in the front-mid instead of the rear. This applies to the spur gear as well.

Also, Traxxas UDR has double GTR shocks, which is something you can’t find on any Traxxas vehicle including the X-Maxx!

The bad thing about the UDR is that there is no rear protection for the internal parts since there is no floor.

The central driveshaft, the suspension system, as well as the 4WD differential are endangered by water, dust, and mud.

This weakness in the UDR is a strong point for the X-Maxx.

Why?

Because the X-Maxx has what’s called: The Superior Driveline Protection which is an additional layer added to the bottom of the chassis to increase the protection. It also increases the durability of the vehicle!

As you see, we can say that this is a special RC car, despite having some disadvantages. However, for the X-Maxx, despite having its own platform, but it’s still similar to normal RC cars chassis.

Also, they both come with battery cases to maximize energy. They’re fully waterproof as well.

So, if you like discovering and owning special things, then Traxxas UDR might be a great fit for you.

But, this might not be your only factor to make your decision. You better discover the other factors to make sure you’re on the right track.

Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx Performance

Numbers And Parts

In order to compare fairly the Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx Performance. We should take into consideration a lot of situations. Because as you know, the fastest doesn’t always mean the strongest!

Traxxas X-Maxx comes with a Velineon 1200XL Brushless Motor alongside a VXL-8s Waterproof Electronic Speed Control. By adding an 8s Lipo battery or two 4s batteries, this RC car can reach up to 50mph.

On the flip side, Traxxas UDR comes with a Velineon® 2200kV Brushless Motor and a VXL-6s Waterproof Electronic Speed Control. By adding 6s or two 3s Lipo batteries, this RC car can reach also 50mph.

Systems and Tech

As expected from Traxxas. A lot of great and useful systems come with these two monsters.

TSM Traxxas Stability Management System

The first and the most essential one is the TSM! Especially for such quick RC cars, this system is so crucial to increase the performance as well as the safety of both you the user, and the car!

TSM helps the car keep its balance, especially with quick accelerations. As you’ve seen in the previous section, the UDR and the X-Maxx are brushless. Which means super quick!

Self-Righting System

For me, the self-righting system is one of the most useful systems Traxxas has ever created. You don’t need to follow your vehicle anymore when it flips on its back.

All you need to do is to press a button on your controller until it comes back on its wheels again.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that this system is available on the Traxxas UDR. It is available on the X-Maxx.

But, due to Traxxas UDR’s close chassis to the ground, it’s hard to be flipped on the back unlike the X-Maxx that is so height, and the odds of getting flipped are high.

So, when it comes to numbers, the UDR VS X-Maxx are almost the same.

However, when it comes to reality, the results are different!

Thug Of War

Have you ever heard of a thug of war between two RC cars? Well, you can see it in the video below of Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx.

If you’ve seen the video above, you’ll notice that the X-Maxx has an easy pull without struggling. Even on the tough ground, Traxxas X-Maxx still wins over Traxxas UDR.

And this is because first, the power, the tires, as well as the weight. The heavier the car, the more downforce is on the wheels. Which means more grip and power.

On the other hand, the lightweight of the UDR doesn’t help her with pulling.

Drag Racing

Drag racing means accelerating at full speed in a limited space to see which one can arrive first to the end!

So, it’s an acceleration competition.

When it comes to Traxxas UDR, this beast is so powerful in accelerating. And the great thing is it doesn’t need the wheelie bar.

The reason behind that is that the weight of the components is spread across the front and the front-mid of the car instead of the rear as the other Traxxas RC cars!

From Traxxas X-Maxx side, despite having almost the same parts and the max speed. The X-Maxx still finds difficulty accelerating at full speed with 4 wheels on the ground.

Well, adding the wheelie bar is a great solution, but still, there is a lot of lost power. By accelerating on just 2 wheels instead of 4. You take leverage from just 2 wheels!

Yet, Traxxas X-Maxx is still super quick and has the same speed as the UDR in reality.

But, personally, I prefer taking leverage of 4 wheels instead of 2 like the UDR.

Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx Controlling and Handling

When it comes to Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx handling, both cars are killing it! They’re the best of the best!

However, when it comes to controlling especially when jumping, it’s another thing!

I see that the smaller the RC cars the easier the control becomes.

For example, if you see our full Traxxas X-Maxx vs Traxxas Maxx comparison, you’ll notice that Traxxas Maxx is easier to control than the X-Maxx despite having the same platform and power.

But because of the smaller size, jumping with a Traxxas Maxx was a lot easier than doing it with an X-Maxx!

The same thing goes for Traxxas UDR VS X-Maxx! The UDR is so lightweight and easy to take around corners, make some flips in the air.

This is not impossible for the X-Maxx, but you need a lot of speed and power, and you risk cracking some parts if the falling wasn’t good.

So, as a conclusion, both RC cars are powerful. But to be honest, Traxxas X-Maxx is powerful than the UDR!

So, if you want something big, high, needs a lot of space, and has a lot of power. Traxxas X-Maxx is the best one for you.

If you’d like something smaller, easy to control, lightweight, special, and different than the others, and aggressive as hell. Traxxas UDR is yours!

UDR VS X-Maxx Upgrading and Parts

Fortunately, there is no Traxxas RC car produced without having its own aftermarket parts and upgrades. The same goes for Traxxas X-Maxx as well as Traxxas UDR.

The difference occurs in the availability of these parts, the opportunity of upgrading as well as their price of course. But for those two RC cars, I see that they’re super easy to upgrade.

For Traxxas X-Maxx, there is a big room for upgrading from the wheels, the suspension, the batteries, as well as a lot of aluminum parts.

Traxxas UDR also has these parts we mentioned above. But, due to its different structure, a lot of additional parts are there! This means that you have a bigger room for upgrading in comparison to the X-Maxx. Isn’t that great?

The price of upgrading also differs from an RC car to another! The more expensive your RC car, the more expensive the upgrades will be.

Traxxas X-Maxx is so expensive, and so its parts. And the same thing goes for Traxxas UDR, but, it’s a little cheaper.
