Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo. Which One Is Better For You?

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo! These two RC monsters are coming from different backgrounds. But, they’re so competitive when it comes to performance!

If you’re familiar with Traxxas RC cars, you’ll know that the Hoss is coming from the Slash family. It’s known for its high reliability and performance.

On the other hand, E-Revo 2.0 doesn’t have any referring platform. It has its own platform with its own structure that few of Traxxas RC cars have like the Summit.

In addition to their background differences, they have a lot of dissimilarities at the level of the body.

But the only thing they have in common is the high performance!

Let’s learn more about the Hoss vs E-Revo comparison in the next few lines…

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo Design

The Body

As we mentioned before, the bodies of Hoss vs E-Revo are completely different!

If you see our previous comparison between the Hoss and the Slash, you’ll notice that the Hoss looks bigger! But not in front of the E-Revo monster!

By the way, they both have great bodies with external and internal body mounts to increase protection against crashes.

The Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo shapes otherwise are different.

When it comes to Traxxas Hoss, it has the body of a truck that looks like the Maxx but with smaller dimensions. We can say that it’s coming between the Maxx’s body and the Stampede’s body.

On the other hand, Traxxas E-Revo’s body is more of a sporty truck that is aerodynamics friendly. It does come also with a spoiler that helps it with the downforce. And also, it gives it a great look!

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo Widness

Unlike the Hoss’s body, the body of the E-Revo is so wide and bigger than the Hoss. However, Hoss is still a little higher.

This is because E-Revo is so much wider. This means that s focusing on speed more than anything else.

The great thing about these two bodies is that they are both clipless. This means that you can remove the body easily. However, they don’t have real headlights, but you can always find aftermarket ones.

Other than that, their design is so simple with some curves mostly on the E-Revo to help with the aerodynamics. This is proof that there is genius engineering behind these RC cars!

As you saw, there is a big difference between those bodies except for some small details like the body mounts and the clipless feature. Other than that, these bodies are still so different but the best!

What about the chassis?

Hoss vs E-Revo Chassis

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo. Which One Is Better For You?

The Hoss vs E-Revo chassis of these cars are so much different! In fact, the Hoss chassis is coming from Traxxas Slash’s platform. This platform is well known for its huge reliability, especially for beginners and bashers.

While for Traxxas E-Revo, it doesn’t have a reference of its chassis. It has its own structure which is something unique and great!

Not only that, but even the built-in structure of some parts of that chassis is different! For example, Traxxas RC cars are used to put their shocks vertically which is the normal position not only for Traxxas but for the whole RC cars industry.

However, when it comes to the E-Revo, it has horizontal shocks. This improves the performance and the handling of this RC car. It’s called “The Advanced In-Board Suspension”.

What About The Hoss vs E-Revo Height?

If you see this Hoss vs E-Revo video, they look like they have almost the same height. Actually, they have just 0.15 inches difference! That is so close.

With this difference, Traxxas E-Revo is the highest one of both.

Also, the major difference between the E-Revo and the Hoss is the wheels! If you see our comparison between the Hoss and the Slash, you will definitely think that the Hoss’s wheels are so big!

But not after seeing the E-Revo! There is no match between both.

In fact, they’re not only higher, but they’re also so much thinner.

With these wheels in place, Traxxas E-Revo should have incredible handling even under the pressure of high speeds.

This doesn’t mean that the Hoss is not great at handling. It just means that the E-Revo is better at this than any Traxxas RC car.

Let me show you another fact about the E-Revo, the difference between its width and height is almost 10 inches! That is insane! The level of handling around corners is crazy.

Traxxas Hoss also has something that the E-Revo doesn’t have. It’s the wheelie bar. But don’t worry, you can buy an aftermarket wheelie bar though.

What about the inside of the E-Revo? It’s also completely different than the usual structure of the rest of Traxxas RC cars. The Hoss instead is still reserving the same structure of the Slash.

Also, like the X-Max, the E-Revo comes with 2 battery holders instead of one! And this isn’t available for Traxxas Hoss.

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo Performance

So far, most of what we’ve just seen was differences in terms of the Hoss vs E-Revo bodies and the chassis.

But when it comes to performance, everything changes. Why? Because these 2 RC cars are so competitive!

Traxxas Hoss comes with a Velineon® 540XL Brushless Motor and a VXL-3s Waterproof Electronic Speed Control. These two parts are so powerful especially the brushless power.

By adding a 3s Lipo to these, you’ll get 60 mph from this monster as a top speed!

On the other hand, Traxxas E-Revo comes with a Velineon® 2200kV Brushless Motor as well as a VXL-6s Waterproof Electronic Speed Control.

This ESC can withstand 6s Lipo power. So, all you have to do is to add a double 3s Lipo battery to open the gate to the 70 mph top speed!

This is more than the X-Maxx and the Maxx!

So, as you see, both RC cars have brushless power which is something so cool. And, they have high top speeds more than most Traxxas RC cars.

This means that owning one of these will be so much fun!

Hoss vs E-Revo Systems

But with this power and speed, it’s hard to control such vehicles. This is why adding systems is something so crucial to make it easier for you as a driver to enjoy your experience.

And let me tell you that Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo systems are the same! But those systems are available in just a few RC cars.

TSM

The first basic system that any Traxxas RC car needs are the Stability Management Control.

This system is not available in all RC cars especially the basic versions like the 2WD Slash Brushed. However, for Traxxas Hoss and E-Revo, the availability of this system is so normal.

Basically, this system helps your RC car keep its balance and direction by turning the wheels automatically in the opposite direction of where the car is going.

It’s like drifting in a real car where you should turn the wheels against the direction of the car!

The great thing about this system is that you can control its intensity. This means that just from your controller, you can choose its interference with your driving. You can turn it off as well!

Self-Righting

There is another system called the Self-Righting System.

This system is available only in high-end Traxxas RC cars like the X-Maxx and the Maxx. It’s also included in both the Hoss and the E-Revo!

This system basically, helps you with flipping your RC car on its wheels after flipping on the back due to a crash or an unbalance.

All you have to do is to click a button on your controller. Then, you’ll see your RC car trying to move forward and back multiple times.

Then, using this compound power of moving, it comes back on its wheels. Isn’t that amazing?

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo Cruise Control

The last system that I want to talk about is the Cruise Control System. This system allows you to know more about your RC car just from your smartphone. And it is available on both the Hoss and the E-Revo.

All you have to do is to get a Traxxas Device that is sold separately. Link it to your phone using the Traxxas App and Bluetooth. And you’re ready to go!

You can see everything about your RC car like the speed and the temperature as well as more…

The Handling

In Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo performance section, everything was almost the same. What about the Handling?

Well, I see depending on the dimensions of the Hoss and the E-Revo. The wider the car, the better it is at handling corners.

And this is what the E-Revo has. This doesn’t mean that Traxxas Hoss isn’t good. On the contrary, Traxxas Hoss is one of the closest RC cars to the Maxx (Check our full comparison of Traxxas Maxx vs Hoss).

However, the E-Revo seems unbeatable when it comes to handling corners because not only of how wide it is. But also of how low is its chassis to the ground!

In addition to that, Traxxas E-Revo has stiffer parts than the Hoss. So, there are fewer chances for the E-Revo to be broken due to a crash than the Hoss coming from the Slash family.

They are both great at any terrain you put them in. Just put the throttle and watch your beast eat everything in front of him.

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo Upgrades

Upgrading your Traxxas Hoss is so much different than upgrading your Traxxas E-Revo! There are a lot of reasons for that.

But the most important one is the fact that they have different chassis. Since the Hoss has the Slash chassis, a lot of parts are common between those RC cars.

This means that the parts of the Hoss are widely available and you can find them everywhere! Because they’re almost the same as the Slash 4×4.

Traxxas E-Revo has its own chassis instead. So, its parts are unique. And few RC cars are sharing that with it like the Summit. They have also almost the same parts!

Does this mean that Traxxas E-Revo’s parts aren’t available? NO. However, they’re not at the same intensity as those of the Slash.

Other than that, when it comes to Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo upgrades, you can add, change, or upgrade any parts you want!

This includes the wheels, the hubs, the suspension system as well as a lot of aluminum parts and accessories.

So there are no limits!

Price & final Judgement

Well, when it comes to the Hoss vs E-Revo price, there is a big difference!

Traxxas E-Revo has a higher price due to its unique design, structure as well as its overwhelming power and rigidness.

You can otherwise go for the 1/16 scale that has the same performance with a cheaper price and smaller size.

On the other hand, despite not having that rigid body and handling, Traxxas Hoss is still one of the best RC cars to have. It’s cheap, easy to upgrade, has a great design, and great handling as well.

We can say it’s a Maxx with smaller dimensions and a cheaper price!

Traxxas Hoss vs E-Revo choice should also take into consideration the size of your house in comparison to these RC cars. It should also take into consideration having kids or not as well as your RC cars level.

If you’re still a beginner and you want to upgrade from a Slash or a Stampede. Traxxas Hoss is your best choice.

On the other hand, if you are already a professional and you own a Traxxas Maxx. But you want something more aggressive, then, Traxxas E-Revo is the one to take back home.

Here are the Hoss vs E-Revo prices:
