Traxxas Slash 2WD, as well as the 4×4 and their popularity, has amazed me due to the huge performance, durability, and speed and the best thing is they are from the cheapest Traxxas Rc Cars!
Well, this monster RC Car is a great car, but, a lot of people are thinking that if they’re spending money on a Traxxas Slash 2WD, why don’t they add a little more and buy a Traxxas Slash 4×4?
That’s why today, I’m going to walk you through the details of each Slash, and which one you should take?

Traxxas Slash Bodies
The 4×4 version of the Slash has the same design and material as the 2wd version. You can’t know the difference between the Slash bodies!
However, the Slash components of the chassis of each one are different because of the driving systems they come with.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 layout is different than the 2WD version and more complex.
The placement of the motor and the transmission is in the middle while in the Slash 2WD, the motor is on the back to support the back wheels for a better spinning.

The Traxxas Slash 4×4 vs 2WD Performance
As everybody knows, 4×4 RC cars are more powerful than 2WD versions because the 4×4 version is supported by the 4 wheels that spin under acceleration and stop under braking.
It has the same system as the Traxxas Maxx. (You can see our comparison between The Slash 4×4 and the Maxx from here)
On the other hand, the 2WD version is supported just by the 2 rear wheels that spin under acceleration and stop under braking.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 comes with a powerful Titan 12T 550 modified motor with an internal cooling fan that makes the motor always cool so that it can give all its performance for the longest time possible.
Therefore, there are 2 sizes of the Slash 4×4, the 1/16 that is smaller and 1/10 that is bigger and stronger.
The Traxxas Slash 1/16 as well as 1/10 are able to reach up to +30 mph, and can even be much faster with some upgrades like adding the dual Lipo batteries that make them able to reach up to 60 mph!
The Slash 4×4 is also waterproof which is a great feature that will add more fun and excitement to your driving experience.
And like the Slash 2WD, Slash 4×4 is an RTR (Ready to Run/Race) AND comes with one Ni-MH battery and a charger.
This means that all you need to do is buy it, take it off the box, charge it, and start enjoying your day!
If you’re not a beginner and you’re interested in upgrading your Traxxas Slash 4×4, that’s cool because it is able to be upgraded and be a monster RC car!

Now, what should I take? The Slash 4×4 or Slash 2WD?
Obviously, if you want something more powerful to go over dust, sand, and snow, the 4×4 version is the one you need because of the 4WD that helps it be more powerful and stronger than the Traxxas Slash 2WD.
However, in the Traxxas Slash 4×4, there are more complex parts and components, which means that you should take care of:
The rear and front differentials, the center driveshaft… and that you should replace them every time they get weakened in order to maintain the performance of your Slash 4×4.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 is also very easy to drive which makes it a beginner-friendly Traxxas RC car.

On the other hand
The Slash 2WD is simpler and easier to maintain because all you have is a differential, a motor, and some other parts.
The Traxxas Slash 2WD is hard to drive because of the sudden turnings right and left.
But a lot of people see this as a fun challenge for them because they have to predict the next direction of their RC car while maintaining its path on the road!
